Your privacy

Confidentiality is at the heart of my work, and that includes how I look after any information you share through this website. This policy explains what I collect, why, and your rights.

Who I am

This website is run by Ellinor Owe, trading as Ellinor O Counselling, based in Edinburgh. I am the data controller for any personal information collected through this website.

What information I collect

I only collect the information you choose to give me, and the minimum needed to run this website:

  • Contact form: your name, email address, phone number (optional) and any message you choose to include.

  • Emails, phone calls and WhatsApp messages: your contact details and anything you share when you get in touch directly.

  • Website visits: basic technical information, such as your IP address and browser type, which is processed when you visit the site. See Cookies below.

How I use your information

I use your information only to respond to your enquiry, answer your questions and, if you would like, arrange a free introductory call or a session. I will never use your details for marketing, and I will never sell them or share them with anyone for their own purposes.

The lawful basis for this is that you have asked me to contact you, so I am taking steps at your request before we enter into any agreement, and my legitimate interest in responding to enquiries.

Sensitive information

Please do not feel you need to share personal or health details when you first get in touch. If you choose to tell me something about your circumstances, I will treat it as confidential. Under UK data protection law, health information is special category data, and I handle it with extra care. If we chose to work together, the Counselling Agreement provides more information on confidentiality and how I manage record keeping.

Who can see your information

Only I have access to your enquiry. A small number of trusted services help run this website and my communications:

  • Webflow, which hosts this website and securely stores contact form submissions. Webflow is based in the United States, and transfers of your information are protected by UK-approved safeguards.

  • Adobe Fonts, which provides the fonts used on this website. Your browser connects to Adobe to load them, which shares your IP address with Adobe.

  • Zoho Mail, which I use to receive and reply to emails.

  • WhatsApp (owned by Meta), if you choose to message me there. Messages are end-to-end encrypted, but WhatsApp does process some information, such as your phone number and when messages are sent.

  • OpenStreetMap, which provides the map on the How it works page. Your browser connects to OpenStreetMap to load it, which shares your IP address. It does not set tracking cookies.

I do not use any other third-party services, and your information is never sold.

How long I keep your information

If you get in touch but we do not go on to work together, I will delete your enquiry within 6 months. If you become a client, you will receive a separate client privacy notice with our counselling agreement, explaining how I look after your information during and after our work together.

How I keep it safe

Your information is stored securely, and my accounts are protected with strong passwords. Please remember that email is not fully secure, so it is best not to include sensitive details in your first message.

Your rights

Under UK data protection law, you have the right to:

  • ask for a copy of the information I hold about you

  • ask me to correct anything that is inaccurate

  • ask me to delete your information

  • ask me to limit or stop using your information

  • withdraw your consent at any time, where I rely on it

If you are unhappy with how I have handled your information, you can complain to the Information Commissioner (ICO) at ico.org.uk or by calling 0303 123 1113.

Cookies

This website only uses the cookies it needs to work properly. It does not use analytics or tracking cookies, and it does not collect information about your activity on the site.

Changes to this policy

I may update this policy from time to time, for example if I start using new services such as online booking. The date at the top of this page shows when it was last updated.
